American beginningsMost of this first unit will probably be a review of your 8th grade US History class. We'll be examining the early settlement and development of the American Colonies, especially the 13 British colonies. From there we'll be tracking the movements that led these colonists to break away from their British overlords. What was it that got them so upset?
After that we'll quickly review the upset of the century: the American victory in the Revolutionary War. How did these upstart rebels topple the largest and strongest army in the world? From there we'll see what the Americans set up as their original government in the Articles of Confederation. We'll also examine the different problems, both domestic and international that led the Americans to try a new "grand experiment" with democracy in their formation of a new government under the Constitution. |
