Boom to bustIn this unit we'll be examining the aftermath of World War I and the turbulent decade of the 1920's. In this short time, many things changed for the United States. As a nation we had taken center stage, but at a hefty price. This led many to want to retreat back into isolation. At the same time the traditional conventions of family and women were altering leading to some instability. Also, with the continued mass production, people had access to more than ever before.
However, this "golden age" wouldn't last. With the stock market crash of October 1929, the United States was pulled down into the world-wide Great Depression. This economic tragedy led meany to question and revise their view of society and government. With the inauguration of FDR the country would fundamentally transform to meet this crisis. |
