Here are the extra credit opportunities for first term. You may choose any combination of projects up to 30 points, however you may only do ONE project from any category. If you do work above the 30 points, keep in mind that the maximum you will get is 30 points. If you have any questions on the specifics of these project feel free to let me know. All extra credit is due no later than 3 pm October 26.
Independent Research (Points TBD)
If you are interested in doing extra reading or research on a topic related to the course which interests you, you will be rewarded with extra credit. Please see me to discuss the details.
Documentary Diagnosis (5 pts)
Select a film from the following list and watch it. As you watch, answer all the questions on the associated worksheet (see attached files at bottom of post) in complete sentences.
Select a film from the following list and watch it. I would recommend taking notes while you watch so that you have information to do the assignment. After finishing the movie, write up a response paper making sure to answer the following questions: (NOTE: as this is a response paper, it should be written like an essay with complete sentences and proper grammar)
1. Before watching the film, what did you already know about this topic?
2. Provide a plot summary with a beginning, middle, climax, and ending.
3. Explain your thoughts on the extent to which the film was accurate. What historical inaccuracies do you believe were included in the film and why do you think they are inaccuracies?
4. What did you learn from this film that you didn't know before watching?
5. Would you recommend this film to another viewer? Why or why not?

** These films are rated R, therefore I need to have parent or guardian permission (signature or email) in order for you to get credit for this.
Create a comic book using one of the following stories from ancient river civilizations. Include comic-style drawings, dialogue, and/or captions. The dialogue can be updated to modern language as long as you communicate the essential elements of the original story. Choose from (1) part of the story of Moses from the Old Testament or (2) the part of the Ramayana we discussed in class.
Your comic book should be colorful, complete, and bound so that it is a polished presentation. Also, include a foreword or introduction to your comic book that answers the following questions:
1. Why did you choose this story?
2. What research did you do? (Include citations)
3. What aspects of this story did you change/leave out and why?

All of the following projects MUST include a short paper (about 1/2 page) describing or giving facts about your project.

- Make a model of the Roman Coliseum or the Greek Parthenon. Tell where it is located, who built it, and label as many parts or features as you can.
- Make a model or detailed drawing of a bath house. Label the different areas.
- Make a model or detailed drawing of the city of Rome or Athens including the main buildings and public spaces.
- Make a model of an aqueduct; describe how it was built and used.
- Design a travel brochure and poster for ancient Greece or Rome. Illustrate and tell about points of interest, what people should see - the food, clothing, and other things of interest to a tourist.
