World Civilizations is a comprehensive study of the human experience from the emergence of early civilizations through the Renaissance to the world of today. As such it is designed as a survey course. This means that over the course of the year we will trace developments in economic and political systems, examine how the geography of the world influenced their development, and explore how the world has emerged with such diverse cultures. Although we won’t go into great depth on any subject, you should gain a better understanding of the complex issues and global interactions that face leaders and citizens today.
Here we are almost to mid-term already! In preparation - and to help you stay organized - here is the portfolio list for this term. It will have all the required elements as well as suggestions on how to get the best possible grade. Please make sure that you pay attention to the due dates of October 18th & 19th. Remember these are considered a project, and are therefore weighted at 25% of your grade, so turn them in (on time) to ensure that you keep the grade you've been working toward. You should have all received your portfolio list in class recently. Remember that you need to collect all the items on that list into a 3 ring binder with a cover page with your name, class, and period. Most of the items listed are things we did in class, except for the portfolio activity. This term you have the option of picking between an art analysis project and creating a mock tombstone and obituary for one of the historical figures from the Renaissance era. Below you will find copies of the portfolio list as well as the instructions for your portfolio activity. Let me know if you have any questions! Portfolios are due March 2nd (A-day) and 3rd (B-day)
Here is the portfolio list for Term 2. Remember that you should add this to what you have from your portfolio last term - we'll continue to build this throughout the year. Also, keep in mind that you'll need to do BOTH of the portfolio activities this term; not just one. Below you'll find links to some good resources to complete your historical article. Portfolios will be due on either January 6th (A-day) or January 7th (B-day) which is the first week after the long Winter Break. Make sure that you start looking at these so you're not doing it the night before - believe me, I can tell :)
Portfolios for first term are due either October 26th (A-day) or October 27th (B-day). Remember that they MUST be turned in on time. Because this is past the "drop dead" date and right before the end of the term I will not accept them late. Make sure you get them in, even if you're absent. Below is a copy of the portfolio list in case you need a new copy.
